Argentina's odds of winning the World Cup have dropped to 10.00 after they narrowly clinched qualification for next year's finals.Diego Maradona's side were at one point out past the 15.00 mark with Betfair during a hit-and-miss qualification campaign.
But the betting exchange dropped their odds after the dramatic win over Uruguay on Wednesday, when Mario Bolatti stroked home an 84th-minute winner to secure a 1-0 scoreline and the result needed to guarantee a finals place.
"Thanks to my players, today I was consecrated as a coach," said a visibly relieved Maradona, "we are in the World Cup with full honours".
Uruguay, who had Martin Carceres sent off just before conceding the goal, will go into the one play-off place available in the South American qualifying group.
Also in the mix for next summer's World Cup are Slovakia, who go through to South Africa as winners of European group three following a 1-0 win over Poland.
Switzerland have also booked a direct route into the competition, while Portugal must negotiate a play-off to qualify.
Carols Quieroz' side have also had an inconsistent qualification campaign and are on odds of 30.00 to make it through their final hurdle and go on to lift the World Cup, with odds from Betfair.
