Friday June 3. MCG. 7:40pm.
Essendon will host the Dees at the MCG on Friday night with huge betting confidence behind them. The Bombers hold fifth place on the ladder, with Melbourne back in 10th, on exactly half the points of Essendon.
There is an obvious gulf in class and confidence here, and our betting analysts think that the points line of 29.5 is a bit on the low side. One could expect it to be more like 36.5pts, and it looks as though the defeat to Richmond has the odds layers doubting the Bombers on the basis of one game against a red hot Tigers.
Betting tip: Take the Bombers giving away 29.5pts at $1.92
Team | Match odds | Points Line
Essendon Bombers | $1.22 | $1.92 (-29.5pts)
Melbourne | $4.30 | $1.92 (+29.5pts) |
GEELONG v WESTERN BULLDOGS
Saturday 4 June. Skilled Stadium. 2:10pm.
Geelong are absolutely flying in 2011 - a maximum nine from nine wins, and are now as low as just $4.50 for the 2011 Flag.
The Bulldogs are heading the wrong way, at a rate of knots. In disarray in Round 9 on the West Coast, and put away easily by the Hawks over the weekend. Hopes were high pre-season for the Doggies ($10.00 for the Flag), but even a top 8 finish looks way off at the moment. Take the Cats giving 39.5pts on the handicap line.
Betting tip: The dominant Cats to smash the Doggies at $1.92 giving 39.5pts.
Team | Match odds | Points Line
Geelong | $1.13 | $1.92 (-39.5pts)
Western Bulldogs | $6.00 | $1.92 (+39.5pts) |
WEST COAST v GOLD COAST
Saturday 4 June. Patersons Stadium. 3:10pm.
The Gold Coast Suns critics have gone a bit quiet. Yes, the Suns have been smashed a few times, as you'd expect. But those pundits who were salivating at the prospect of a winless season, with Karmichael Hunt being hounded out of the sport, are conspicious by their absence in the media now.
This is a difficult game to call. West Coast were looking great until they met the Pies (but they are in good company), and The Suns held Geelong for a long time. Too difficult to call the odds with any great confidence for us, even with a 68.5pts start for the Suns, this away trip is a killer.
Betting tip: No bet advised.
Team | Match odds | Points Line
West Coast Eagles | $1.03 | $1.92 (-68.5pts)
Gold Coast Suns | $12.50 | $1.92 (+68.5pts) |
COLLINGWOOD v ST KILDA
Saturday 4 June. MCG. 7:10pm.
The rematch of the rematch at the MCG, but expect the same result as the rematch (if that makes sense). Since the 68-68 2010 Grand Final thriller, the Pies have progressed well - The Saints not so well.
St Kilda drifted to $51.00 for the Flag recently, but 2 wins have boosted their morale. Having said that, Goddard looks to be out for a while to add to their woes.
Betting tip: Back the Pies at $1.92 giving 31.5pts, which is way under our predicted line..
Team | Match odds | Points Line
Collngwood | $1.20 | $1.92 (-31.5pts)
St Kilda | $4.60 | $1.92 (+31.5pts) |
BRISBANE v SYDNEY
Saturday 4 June. Gabba. 7:40pm.
Brisbane were strong in Round 10, Sydney a touch lucky, but both sides won. Sydney sit in 6th place on the ladder, with the Lions way down in 15th, which makes the $2.00 on offer for a Swans win seem more than fair.
Betting tip: Back the Swans at $2.00 in the head to head market - this price is too big for a definite top 8 side.
Team | Match odds | Points Line
Brisbane | $1.80 | $1.92 (-3.5pts)
Sydney | $2.00 | $1.92 (+3.5pts) |
HAWTHORN v FREMANTLE
Sunday 5 June. MCG. 1:10pm.
Hawthorn are sitting pretty in 3rd place and looking good. Fremantle were looking good, but are not the same team without Sandilands, which is well documented. Freo capitulated against a poor (but improving) Saints last week. And they will be looking to bounce back at the MCG.
This will be a tough fame for Freo, but the Hawks have a habit of failing when their odds are very short, and Fremantle are a huge price at $6.30
Betting tip: Take a punt on Freo to restore pride against a complacent Hawks team at the MCG, $6.30 is too big too miss!
Team | Match odds | Points Line
Hawthorn | $1.12 | $1.92 (-40.5pts)
Fremantle | $6.30 | $1.92 (+40.5pts) |
NORTH MELBOURNE v ADELAIDE
Sunday 5 June. Etihad Stadium. 2:10pm.
North Melbourne simply cannot buy a win at the moment, knocking on the door week after week. The key here is how will they bounce back from an agonising 1 point loss against the Swans last week?
Adelaide were crushed in Round 10, and look low on confidence. This is the perfect game for the Kangaroos to grab that elusive win. We make North Melbourne a must bet for Round 11.
Betting tip: $1.54 is a very fair price for North Melbourne, include them in all your multis this week..
