AFL: Odds For Round Four’s Saturday Games

April 10th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Saturday the 12th is going to be a busy day for AFL fans, so you need to make sure you’ve got all your Round Four odds at your fingertips, and all the AFL odds for a 2014 season that’s only just starting to take shape.

In action on Saturday afternoon are five of the top eight teams on the ladder, and all three of the leaders going into Round Four, so there could be some changes on that ladder by Sunday morning. The clash between first-placed West Coast and third-placed Geelong is a mouth-watering prospect that could be a cracking game, but there’s more to enjoy before that one. Look out for GWS and the Bulldogs, a clash that features two of the leagues early over-performers. The Giants have already registered twice as many wins in the first three games of 2014 than they managed in the 2013 season, so another victory would just add fuel to their fire. The Bulldogs took a narrow game against Richmond last time out, so they’ve got some momentum with them, as well – this is a difficult one to call, and the bookies have GWS as $2.20 outsiders, whilst the Bulldogs are your $1.67 favourites.

Starting at the same time as the West Coast vs Geelong game, and featuring the side between them on the ladder, a clash of Hawthorn against Gold Coast will cause some serious viewing dilemmas for neutrals and for lovers of the game. The Suns have some great young players in their side, and skipper Gary Ablett is worth an admission fee all by himself, but they will face a stern test against Hawthorn. Expect to see some real quality on show as a Gold Coast side that’s eyeing a first-ever finals berth comes up against the reigning premiers and early season favourites. We’ll be watching.

Unless of course we can’t look away from the Eagles game. Geelong have been business-like rather than brilliant in the first three rounds of the 2014 season, but they’re one of the sides still holding an unbeaten record. Saturday will be a tough test, though – West Coast are one of the other unbeaten sides, and they look to be playing with real confidence. Add to the mix a few key players missing out for the Eagles, though, and the fact that the Cats boast a ludicrously-good home record, and you can see why they are the bookies’ favourites at $1.30. With the Eagles finding real form in the 2014 campaign so far, though, could they be worth a bet at $3.55?
