AFL: Anzac Day Odds
April 22nd, 2014 by TJ DilferThere’s only one unbeaten side left in the 2014 AFL season, and after five rounds of hard-fought action, it isn’t the side that Hawks fans were hoping it would be. When the dust settled at the MCG, it was Cats fans celebrating an incredible 12 wins from their last thirteen matches against Hawthorn. That’s quite a record, and it keeps the title race simmering away as we go into Round Six, and a trio of Anzac Day fixtures that we’re looking forward to. Collingwood and Essendon contest the first of those three AFL games on Anzac Day, and Collingwood go into this one as the favourites, with odds of $1.67 against their names. The Pies were on winning form in Round Five, easing past North Melbourne to ensure they kept their place in the top eight, whereas the Bombers suffered a defeat to St Kilda that also saw the Saints ahead of them on the ladder. Essendon are getting $2.20 odds to bounce back on Anzac Day.
St Kilda are back in action, too, on Friday night, going up against the Lions, and they’ll be confident that they can keep things moving in the right direction against a winless Brisbane side. The Saints are a $1.42 bet, while you’ll get odds of $2.85 on the Lions producing their first points of the season – it’s getting to the stage where they will need to grab a win to keep themselves interested in the season, but they’ve been off the pace in the opening weeks, and it’s hard to see where that win is coming from…
Finish off Anzac Day with Fremantle and North Melbourne, two sides that are both coming off losses in Round Five, but who are both sitting on 12 points, in amongst a group of teams that haven’t been separated by the first month or so of the season. Obviously a win would be a major boost to either of these two, as it would make their spot in that top eight a little more secure. The Dockers are getting the shorter odds a few days out from the game at $1.33, and we’re seeing odds of $3.25 for North Melbourne.
