Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Dan Excel Settling In

August 13th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

It’s only a relatively short trip from Hong Kong down to Australia, but there’s a world of difference between the two, even if you’re a racehorse. There are horses who take a little longer than others to settle into things here in Australia, and a few who never quite settle at all – we’re all hoping that talented Hong Kong import Dan Excel is one who can make the transition, because we’ll be looking out for him in the Racing odds for the Cox Plate in 2014…

You can’t imagine a place that’s further removed from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong than the Muskoka Farm on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, but that’s where Dan Excel finds himself for the time being – and by all accounts he seems to be making himself at home after some initial reservations. Which is great news for trainer John Moore, who will be hoping that Dan Excel can carry some excellent form with him into the Melbourne Spring, and win him a much-coveted Group 1 win on Australian soil – a win that has so far eluded Dan Excel’s owner, David Boehm.

The Cox Plate looks like the most likely target for Dan Excel in the Melbourne Spring, and he will be prepared with that race in mind. If he can reproduce anything like the form that has seen him wins races like the Champions Mile in Hong Kong and the Singapore International Cup, he will be a real chance for the Cox Plate, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for the Racing odds that include his name.
