Caulfield Cup Racing Odds: Text’n Hurley Getting Back On Track
September 3rd, 2014 by Pom de TurfHere’s a horse who has had more than her fair share of difficulties already: we’re right at the start of the Melbourne Spring Festival and already plans for Text’n Hurley have had to be changed. A sore ankle forced a change of plans two weeks ago, and a return at the weekend wasn’t a successful as perhaps her team could have hoped. All of this might mean that she’ll see some Racing odds that flatter her on the way to the Caulfileld Cup, though – and that’s most likely to still be her target this Spring.
There’s a note of caution coming out of the Text’n Hurley camp, it seems, with trainer Colin Little speaking to the press before her run-out last weekend: ‘she overreached in a gallop on Friday (last week) and she was a little sore near the back of her ankle. We took her down to the beach on Sunday and she seemed reasonably good this morning. It was an important gallop. Matty Lindsay rides her in her work all the time and he was happy with her. She did look a little bit round this morning, but it was probably because she’s missed the one gallop. All being well this afternoon we’ll front up on Saturday in the 1400m handicap.’
She did get through Saturday, but not with the sort of bounce back to form that Little would have been quietly hoping for. He’s going to have to give some careful thought to his plans for the Spring, and he knows it: ‘we had a lovely program mapped out going into the Caulfield Cup if she was good enough but as it always happens something goes wrong and we’ll have to re-jig the whole thing now if she can get through Saturday.’
So where Text’n Hurley ends up in the Racing odds this Spring is subject to debate, but she’s well worth keeping tabs on…
