Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: The Offer In Dato Tan Chin Nam
September 8th, 2014 by Pom de TurfAll eyes will be on Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer this weekend in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes, and there will be plenty of punters weighing up whatever performance the classy stayer produces. You can rest assured that there will be a good number of column inches dedicated to assessing the condition of The Offer, and it’s probably worth keeping an eye on the Racing odds at the end of that link to see if there’s any movement…
Despite the early-season opportunity to see The Offer in action – and it’s been a while since he was at the races – it’s worth bearing in mind that the Melbourne Spring is a long haul, and Gai Waterhouse will be looking to have The Offer peak for The Race That Stops A Nation. That might mean he doesn’t create too many sparks in the Dato Tan Chin Nam – in fact, jockey Tommy Berry seemed happy to explain to the press that it’s a question of easing him into the season: ‘he is not a horse that we are looking to get up on the pace, he seems to relax quite well wherever he is in the run and if you start revving him up he can get pully, which he does in his work sometimes. After speaking to Gai this morning we are just going to let him get in his rhythm and be wherever he is happy. He is going to be vulnerable first-up over a mile and he has had one trial less than we wanted to give him and we don’t want to use him up too much early and want to see him hitting the line and running a good race. If he happens to win, which he has the quality to, we would be very happy with that.’
So whilst there will be a good deal of punters watching The Offer in the Dato Tan Chin Nam with interest, we’re not necessarily expecting a sizzling performance. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up – he certainly has the class to win it – and equally interesting to see where the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup go afterwards…
