Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Waller And Williams Dominate Nominations
September 11th, 2014 by Pom de TurfThere has been, and there will be between now and The Race That Stops a Nation at the start of November, lots of talk about the overseas raiders who will be making their way to Australia to run in our biggest race. And there will be some strong chances amongst the imports – you only have to have a look at the Racing odds for the Melbourne Sup to see that some of them are going to be right in the mix.
But they have a huge challenge to overcome in the shape of any number of Australian horses who could take the race by storm. And, in particular, there are a couple of Australia-based stables who have lots of nominations for the 2014 Melbourne Cup, and who look like they could have more than a couple of horses in the race this year. The first is Lloyd Williams’ Macedon Lodge stables, who boasted an unprecedented six runners in the field for the 2013 Melbourne Cup. This year’s nominations see 12 potential runners for Williams, so he’s likely to have plenty of reasons to watch the race again this year. Also interested will be Chris Waller, who has 12 runners amongst the nominations, too. Some of them will have to take the chances on offer over the course of the Spring Festival to make it into the race, but there’s no denying Waller is well represented in the nominations. It’s his great rival Gai Watehrouse who has the early favourite, though: The Offer is a $13.00 right now on Sportsbet.
