AFL Round One: Odds For The First Weekend
March 3rd, 2014 by TJ DilferThe pre-season is behind us, and, whilst there are some friendlies between us and Round One, the focus now is on those opening fixtures, and every side will want to get off to the best possible start to the 2014 season. Best of all, it looks like it will be a great first weekend for the fans, with some good match-ups spread over the course of those first three days. And we’re especially excited after the NAB Challenge has whet our appetite, and left us looking forward to the first exchanges of the season proper, where every kick will be under pressure – and it’ll only get hotter as the season gets going!
We’ll revisit the first games of the 2014 race for the flag before the 14th, when Collingwood and Freemantle kick off the season, but here’s a bit of a breakdown of the first weekend to keep you going. Neither side in the opener had an NAB Challenge to make them happy, but expect them both to come out looking for a win on Friday the 14th. The Pies are $2.10 and you’ll get $1.70 for the Dockers. Saturday features two matches – but the first is one that might only be entertaining for Sydney fans: they’re the $1.04 favourites to beat GWS, and it’s set to be a one-sided encounter, if you believe the bookies, with GWS a $10.00 bet! Closer will be the Gold Coast vs Richmond game on the same night – you’ll get $2.45 for the Suns to get off to a flyer, but the odds favour Richmond: they’re $1.53. Finish off your weekend of AFL with Sunday night’s game between Carlton and Port Adelaide, in which the Blues are $1.55 favourites, and the Power are $2.40.
