AFL: $1.33 Odds For Richmond, A Look At How The Season Stands
April 14th, 2014 by TJ DilferRound Four of the 2014 AFL season came to a close yesterday afternoon when Freemantle eased past Essendon, and with the dust settling, reigning premiers Hawthorn find themselves topping the ladder and looking good. You can get all your Round Five odds by following the link, and have a look below for our breakdown of some of the bets on offer as the season rumbles on.
Obviously, Hawthorn haven’t done themselves any harm in the opening rounds. It’s always an incredibly difficult thing to retain the premiership, but if you’re setting out to do just that, then four wins on the bounce is a good way to start. The Hawks are a $3.20 bet to claim the pennant again, with Freemantle the next closest side behind them at $4.25. You can see all the odds for the 2014 season by following the link: a lot will depend on the next few weeks, obviously, and those odds may well shift one way or the other, but Hawthorn have been looking strong, and they’ll be favourites yet again on Monday when they run out against Geelong in the game that will leave only one side unbeaten in the 2014 season…
At the foot of the ladder things are looking darker and darker for the Lions and for a troubled Carlton outfit. It’s not clear to see how the Blues can turn things around quickly, but there’s still some value – especially if you’re a fan – in a $9.00 bet for them to finish the season in the top eight. Carlton will be looking ahead to their Sunday evening game against the Bulldogs, and working hard to find a way to get a win, and the same will be happening over at the headquarters of the Brisbane Lions – also without a win to their name this season, and also facing down a disastrous 2014 campaign even at this early stage.
Brisbane are in action on Monday night against Richmond, and unsurprisingly go in as the underdogs at $3.20. They’re setting the wrong kinds of records this season at Brisbane – they’re the first team in the league’s history to lose every quarter of their first four games in the season. It will feel like they’re setting records for injuries to key players, too, and it’s difficult to see where that desperately-needed win will come from on Thursday night. The smart money is on Richmond at $1.33, and a win will make them feel a bit better about their start to their campaign, and maybe help them creep up a place or two on the ladder: they’re sitting in 14th after Round Four.
