AFL: Adelaide and North Melbourne Favourites In NAB Challenge Fixtures
February 13th, 2014 by TJ DilferThe NAB Challenge is underway, and Geelong have laid down a marker in a brutal win over Collingwood that saw forward George Burbury suffer an horrific broken jaw – one of several injuries in a hard-fought contest. Next up, on Friday night, Richmond and Melbourne go head-to-head, and we’re really looking forward to seeing how two young, fresh sides go. In the meantime, there are fixtures coming thick and fast, with North Melbourne and Carlton meeting on Saturday night, and Adelaide squaring up to Port Adelaide on Sunday.
North Melbourne go in favourites to beat Carlton in their fixture, and both sides will be hoping to get away better than either the Cats or the Pies on the injury roster – both sides have got decent starts to the season proper in their sights if they can perform from Round One. In terms of betting, you’ll get $1.61 for North Melbourne, while the Blues are a $2.25 wager.
Adelaide are favourites, too, in their clash against Port Adelaide, and looking to trial some young talent in the pre-season. They’ll have an interesting time adjusting to the rotations cap, which is lower than what they averaged last season, and they’ll want to watch that, especially if the temperature is up. The bookies are predicting a close game, too, with Adelaide the favourites on Sportsbet right now at $1.80, but Port Adelaide not far behind at $2.00. It has all the makings of a great pre-season fixture for the fans, and it might be best to follow your heart if you’re looking for an outright bet. There could well be some interesting options up on Sportsbet by the weekend, of course, if you’re looking for a betting market to tempt you…
