AFL: Collingwood’s Odds $2.05 In Friday’s Game
March 10th, 2014 by TJ DilferThe Dockers are the $1.77 favourites to open their 2014 account with a win over Collingwood, and much of the burden for those good-looking odds will fall on the broad shoulders of Freemantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands. With the ink still drying on a new contract, Sandilands will be a happy man – and even more so if he stops to consider his form. He registered some impressive-looking stats in the pre-season, and he is hinting at a return to the form of a few seasons back that saw him as an All-Australian, and getting the plaudits as the finest big man in the game. Collingwood will certainly be hard-pressed to contain him on Friday night when the two sides meet.
The Pies are a $2.05 bet on Friday night, but they might be good value at that price, especially since they will be fielding a close-to-full-strength side, and one with plenty of motivation to put to bed the disappointments of last season. Last year’s exit in the elimination final against Port Adelaide will have hurt the whole Collingwood setup, and they will be especially keen to kickstart their 2014 campaign with a win – a victory that has been made just that little more important for the Pies by some indifferent pre-season results.
So expect to see an intriguing contest when Freemantle and Collingwood run out for their Round One game, and make sure you take a look at the markets on offer right now at Sportsbet. After a season that was very much troubled by injury last year, can Collingwood start 2014 with a win over a Freemantle side who are being picked by a good number of pundits as amongst the season’s strongest contenders?
