AFL: Geelong $1.48 Favourites Over Collingwood in NAB Challenge
February 11th, 2014 by TJ DilferThere’s always the same debate about the pre-season fixtures. The coaches don’t seem to have an agreement as to the best way of approaching an NAB Challenge fixture: is it better to put out the strongest side possible, or to use it as a chance to blood young talent? Is the injury risk outweighed by the chance to get some real match practice in the side? And how about the fans? Are the pre-season games just the warm-up act, or is it a chance to catch some bonus games (in towns that don’t see as much footie) that’s great to have?
Either way, today sees the first of the NAB Challenge matches, and it’ll be Geelong and Collingwood who fire the first shots of the 2014 preliminaries. Both coaches look to have picked strong sides, with Jarrod Janson the only unknown face in the Collingwood squad, and both sets of players packed with talent. Geelong are the favourites going into the game, getting $1.48 on Sportsbet right now. Collingwood fans will be hoping that strong side can make their $2.55 odds look long, and there are plenty of betting markets on offer if you’re looking to place a bet, too. Look out for a $2.20 bet for Geelong to win it by 39 points or fewer, and $3.90 if it’s by at least a 40-point margin. If you think it’ll be closer than that, then have a glance at a Tri Bet: either team by fewer than 16 points is a $2.70 bet.
