AFL: Long Odds For Lions and Dees
April 9th, 2014 by TJ DilferIt’s time to start looking at your Round Four odds, and all the up-to-date AFL Odds you’ll need to make sure you’re making the best bets you can!
Going into Round Four, Tigers captain Trent Cotchin has been in the press talking about his team. It will have been a difficult result for the whole Richmond outfit to go down by two points to the Bulldogs, and Cotchin was keen to address criticism that his Tigers just haven’t been hungry enough so far in the 2014 campaign. We’re not party to what’s being said behind closed doors at Richmond, but there will definitely be calls for a strong performance when they meet Collingwood on Friday night: Richmond have been ahead at some stage in all three games so far but ultimately let two of them slip away – if they can sneak a win over the Pies then there will be a more comfortable week ahead for their skipper as he fields more sympathetic questions from the press…
Collingwood, on the other hand, will know that a win over the Tigers makes things look a lot rosier for them, as well. There’s no denying that the Pies have ambitions in spite of a rebuilding feel to their 2014 season, and they’ll want the points on Friday. You’ll get $2.30 for a Richmond win, but Collingwood go in as $1.63 favourites.
Moving into another busy Saturday of AFL games, there’s what could be a couple of one-sided clashes to start you off. Carlton go into their game against Melbourne as the $1.13 favourites, and that seems like short odds for a side that have yet to register a win in the 2014 season. The Blues haven’t had the best start, it’s fair to say, but then Essendon and Port Adelaide have been two of the sides they’ve come up against in the early rounds. They will be looking to take points off the side that are currently sitting at the bottom of the ladder – Melbourne certainly haven’t had things their own way in the first 3 rounds, and they’ve just got another piece of bad news as Mitch Clark announces his retirement from football. There might still be a few loyal Dees fans backing them at $5.85, of course…
And the Lions are even longer odds going into their Saturday game against Port Adelaide. The Power missed out in Round Two – going down to North Melbourne – and that doesn’t necessarily bode well for the Lions, who could be up against a Port Adelaide side stung by defeat and filled with new purpose. Either way, the Power are a $1.12 bet, and the Lions are getting $6.25. Don’t expect us to be backing Brisbane!
