AFL Odds: Further Injury Woes For Reid
December 19th, 2014 by TJ DilferAs the AFL season starts to roll around again, and whilst the players look to prepare themselves for a long, gruelling season and the fans and punters start to assess the AFL odds for a fresh campaign, Collingwood, like every other franchise in the AFL, will be working hard to make sure that their players are coming to the 2015 season in the best possible shape.
So there will be a great deal of frustration and disappointment amongst fans when they hear about yet another injury to defender Ben Reid. There will be frustration in the coaching staff, too, of course, but it’s worth remembering that the guy worst affected is likely to be Reid himself, who will be forced to put his feet up when he’s going to be wanting to get himself ready for the new season. Reid, who had a horribly shortened 2014 season thanks to a series of soft-tissue injuries – the worst of them an injury to his right calf – and who didn’t make an appearance until Round 18, will be cursing his luck. He was on the road to recovery from the last setback, and looking to make a return to full training last week, when he suffered a strain to his left calf in the midst of his warm-up. You’ve got to feel for him – it would have been a sickening feeling to hurt the ‘good’ leg on the way back from injury, but he’s in good hands at Collingwood, and the club will be working hard to get him back to full working order: they predict maybe a month’s setback for Reid from this latest injury.
We’re not sure it’s the sort of news that will affect the AFL odds for the Pies this far ahead of the 2015 season, but it’s a shocker for Reid himself, and it does pose some early questions for the strength-in-depth of the Collingwood defensive effort – we’ll keep you up to date in these pages with any news as we get it…
