AFL Odds: Jack Coming Back
January 15th, 2015 by TJ DilferInjuries are part and parcel of an AFL season, and for the teams trying to mount a successful 2015 campaign, managing the list of players who are carrying injuries and who are incapacitated by them is hugely important. It’s an important factor, too, in your calculations when you’re weighing up the AFL odds we’re seeing at this early stage for the coming season.
Take, for instance, the long tale of Melbourne co-captain Jack Tengrove, who’s a key player in the Dees squad, obviously, but who had a heavily-curtailed 2014 season thanks to a recurring foot injury. That’s since seen surgery, but the injury was aggravated in September, and weeks upon weeks of rest have seen Tengrove facing a long road back to AFL-grade fitness. He seems to be taking things in good spirits, judging by his twittering: ‘if anyone knows the whereabouts of my calf then please contact me. It’s been missing for about 8 weeks now #dontmisslegday #babymoomoos.’ He’s been present at Demons training sessions, too, so he will be hoping to get himself back into playing with the group of players who will be aiming for a finals spot as a decent return from the 2015 season, you’d think – checking the AFL odds we’re seeing with a couple of months to go before the season starts, Melbourne are at odds of $10.00 to make the top eight come the final day of the season, and a good long $251.00 to make this year a winning year. More likely they’ll be looking to build for the future, and, at still only 23 years of age, Tengrove could well be a big part of those plans, so long as he doesn’t rush his return, and can get a good long run of games behind him again. He’s played 81 career games to date, and as he sets off on the long, long road to fitness again, Dees fans will be hoping it will be for good…
