AFL Odds: Round 16
July 2nd, 2014 by TJ DilferRound 15 of the 2014 AFL was a good one, with some intriguing results for pundits to ponder as we start thinking about Round 16 – and we’ve got all the Round 16 odds so you can see where your side stands at the weekend, and where you think the best-value bets might be.
There were Gold Coast fans up and down the country with their heads in their hands after the defeat by Hawthorn in Round 15, and the Suns are teetering on the edge of the precipice now, just four points ahead of the Crows and in danger of losing out on the finals spot that was their ambition for the season and that looked a very likely thing three or four weeks ago. But there were great signs in the wet for Hawthorn, who have found themselves laying down a marker by out-muscling the Suns, and putting themselves at the top of the ladder. They were helped by a Crows win over Port Adelaide that showed us Adelaide can really mix it with the big boys, and might be a contender if they can break Gold Coast hearts and see themselves into the top eight.
In fact, the only bad news for Hawthorn in Round 15 was an injury to Cyril Rioli – but that’s probably bad enough news to take the shine off the move to the top of the ladder. Unless the injury is less bad than it first seems, or Rioli makes a quicker comeback than expected, he’ll be out pretty much until the Grand Final. It looks likely that the Hawks will be playing finals footie in 2014, but they could do with the spark that Rioli provides with a tough run in, especially if their fans are entertaining real hopes of lifting silverware.
Hawthorn are in action Friday night against North Melbourne, and they’ve got real momentum to maintain, so take a look over the AFL odds we’ve got for you, and all those Round 16 odds in particular…
