AFL Odds: The Hard Work Has Started
December 31st, 2014 by TJ DilferAFL players can’t expect to have the same Christmas that you and I can – we probably knew that already, but a little look at the training that those guys are putting in is enough to make you reach for another slice of cake. With the long, hard 2015 season ahead of them, and the inevitable wear and tear injuries and the long-term fatigue that they have to overcome, it’s vital for a player’s season that they clock a good preparation in the off-season. It can have a big impact on the AFL odds you’re seeing for their teams and for the Brownlow and others medals, too.
And it’s especially important for young players looking to make an impact, for players looking to step up into senior roles, and for those players whose 2014 season was affected by injury. So it’s worth keeping an eye on which players are making waves by the way they’re training – and you can get a good idea from the buzz amongst their team-mates who’s catching an eye in training.
Whilst you and I might reasonably expect to put on a few pounds over Christmas, there are players working hard to seriously bulk up for the 2015 season – keep an eye on Lewis Taylor, who’s apparently 7kg heavier than the end of last season, and looking to add bulk to the Bulldogs roster all by himself. The same goes for Jack Martin at Gold Coast, who’s one of a young cohort of players looking to make an impact on the ladder, and maybe even in the finals – he’s got 5kg more impact to make already.
So we’ll be keeping an eye out for those players making the buzz with their effort in training ahead of the new season, and we’ll be checking the AFL odds for the value they add to their teams, and to their own chances of finding success in the new season…
