AFL Round One: Swans Looking For A Flying Start
March 7th, 2014 by TJ DilferSydney Swans will be looking for the best possible start to their 2014 campaign, and, looking at the fixtures list for the first month or so, it’s possible that the Swans could be sitting on five wins from their first five games come the middle of April. There’s a feeling that Sydney are right in the running for a grand final spot at the very least this season, and they will be relishing the chance to run out in the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ to get their season off to the best possible start. The Swans are a short, short $1.05 bet to beat GWS (who are, in contrast, the longest odds of Round One at $10.00).
There will be more challenges ahead for the Swans, of course – and more difficult ones – as the season picks up pace. They’re favourites again against Collingwood, though – you can get odds of $1.45 on Sportsbet right now – when they meet on March 29th, and $1.70 to beat Freemantle in Round Five, and they’ll meet Adelaide and North Melbourne on the way. They’re all winnable games, and Sydney will want to be chalking up that fifth win after the Dockers game – that will put them in a great position to push on from.
And there are high hopes for the Swans this season, from inside and outside the camp. They’re pretty much universally regarded as being in the mix for the flag along with Hawthorn and Freemantle, and that will add a bit of extra bite to their Round Five game against the Dockers. With one of the biggest names in the AFL set to make his premiership debut for Sydney against GWS, all eyes will be on Lance Franklin, and he could be a massive factor in making those odds of $6.00 to win the flag look long if anything. You’ll get $1.55 for the Swans to finish in the top four, and a short $1.10 if they’re in the top eight. Maybe save your money on a $7.50 bet that they miss out on a top eight spot unless you know something that the pundits don’t.
Of course, we’ve got all your Round One odds, and some good Round One Tips for you, and you can get all the bets you need at sportsbet right now…
