AFL: All The Odds For Saturday’s Games
March 18th, 2014 by TJ DilferA pulsating first round of AFL fixtures rumbles on into Saturday, with two more tantalising games in store to make the 22nd an enjoyable evening’s viewing, to say the least. Hawthorn are in action against Brisbane Lions, and Melbourne meet St Kilda – all four sides will be keen to register a win in a round that has seen some upsets and some interesting results. But with opportunity knocking, who will be the happier set of fans come Sunday morning?
We’re not about to accuse the Hawthorn setup of any kind of complacency, but there will perhaps have been mention made of it as something to avoid when they run out against the Lions to open up their 2014 season. The last time Brisbane beat Hawthorn was in 2009, and all four games since have featured margins of at least 40 points, so all the signs point to the smart money following the $1.08 odds that you’ll get on Sportsbet right now for a Hawthorn win. It’s been an interesting start to the season, though, and that surprise result in Sydney might have more than just Lions fans tempted to bet on a big upset at $7.50. Who’s to say that Brisbane can’t upset the odds and get their 2014 season off to a flyer?
The other game on the schedule for Saturday night is a clash between St Kilda and Melbourne, and it’s not clear at this stage what the final teamsheet will look like for either side. Certainly, Melbourne look like they will field an improvised forward setup in the season opener, with three key men missing in that area. Whether St Kilda will be able to manage their own injury list well enough to take advantage of Melbourne’s shortcomings remains to be seen – the Saints are $2.45 bet, and the outsiders. You’ll get $1.55 for the Dees to get 2014 off to the best possible start, which might be decent odds…
