AFL: Swans $2.75 Odds To Beat Ladder-Topping Hawks

May 8th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

There’s a treat in store for AFL fans Friday night, when Sydney and Hawthorn fire the first shots of Round Eight, and it could be a real cracker to kick off the round! Make sure you’ve got all your Round Eight odds handy, and read on for a closer look at this one…

With a couple of big wins between them and defeat by Geelong, Hawthorn are back at the top of the ladder (albeit on points difference over Port Adelaide and Geelong) and starting to put the bad memories behind them. They’ll rightly be the favourites to keep their winning form going against the Swans on Friday, with odds of $1.45: they average more points than any other side this season (128), and they’ll be confident of overpowering a Swans side that’s short on ruckmen.

For their part, Sydney have been finding their form in the past few weeks, and after a slow start to the 2014 campaign find themselves inside the top eight and pushing to climb the ladder. The team news has been focussed on Buddy Franklin and his knee injury, but it looks like he might play – that gives the Swans a boost against his old team-mates. There’s no doubting that it’s an uphill struggle for the Swans, who are a $2.75 bet to win it, and they will have to raise their game another notch to beat the Hawks. If they can do it, though (and it has been done in 2014 already), they put themselves right in the mix going forwards, and keep things interesting at the top of the ladder, too.

There are plenty of markets for this one on Sportsbet right now, and we’ve got all the Round Eight odds you need, as well as some good AFL odds and futures if you’re looking longer-term…
