AFL: West Coast $1.22 Favourites on Sunday
March 26th, 2014 by TJ DilferA split Round One has meant that the 2014 season hasn’t started with the big bang that many would have liked (it’s a bit of a controversial topic, and we’re going to leave it alone), but there were some classic games to relish in the opening salvoes – especially of you are a GWS fan! But we’re not alone in looking forward to a Round Two schedule that’s packed into a weekend-or-so that’s got AFL fans all around Australia and the world licking their lips in anticipation. Of course, you’ll be wanting to check out your Round Two odds before the first game on Thursday at the MCG, and we’ve taken a look forward to those games and to a busy Saturday in these pages already. Here’s a look at the games that round out the busy weekend, starting with Brisbane against Geelong…
Geelong are currently an $8.00 bet to finish the 2014 season at the top of the pile and with another pennant in the cabinet, and they are the $1.26 favourites to beat Brisbane and follow up a strong start to the campaign that saw them put away Adelaide in convincing style. These two sides produced a couple of fantastic games in the 2013 season, though, and the results went one each way, so we’re not convinced the bookies have it right when they give the Lions $3.60 odds to take the win – a loss to an impressive Hawthorn outfit hasn’t given Lions fans a chance to really see how their side will go, but they’ll most likely get that on Sunday…
Next up is a game between Melbourne and West Coast that might be a clash between two teams heading in different directions, hard to hear as it might be for Demons fans. You’d say that Melbourne are looking forward to a period of rebuilding, and they were overpowered by St Kilda in Round One. The Eagles, on the other hand, are flying high on the back of a good win in Round One, and could see themselves at the top of the ladder on Sunday night. The bookies at Sportsbet are giving you odds of $6.50 for a Melbourne upset, and a much shorter $1.11 for a West Coast win.
Finishing off Round Two on Sunday night, North Melbourne have a real point to make when they square off against the Bulldogs. They have been widely tipped for big things in 2014, but a loss to Essendon was far from the ideal start for the Roos. Western Bulldogs are also without a win, though, and they’ll be more than keen to get things off to a start, hoping to overturn odds of $2.90 to grab the win. North Melbourne are the favourites at $1.38…
