Ashes Preview
November 7th, 2013 by adminThe tourists have arrived, and they’re into a second warm-up game: their batsmen seem to be enjoying the conditions and the bowling at Hobart against an Australia A side. Alistair Cook missed the first warm-up game with a back injury, but he looks like a man enjoying making up for lost time, and fellow opener Michael Carberry strengthen his claim on the Test opener’s spot with some serious time in the middle, and some runs under his belt, too.
There are already talking points springing up: does Carberry’s strong performance mean he’ll open up for England in the first Test on the 21st, leaving Joe Root to occupy the number six spot? Can he make the step up to facing a Test attack? And there are some great tussles in store for the series. Obviously the two captains are going to be key, but that number six position could be a crucial one for both teams, with Root looking like he might do the job for England, and George Bailey the popular choice to fill the role for Australia. We’ll be watching the headlines and the warm-up games (probably the highlights!) with interest, because we’ll be wanting to put a bet on the first Test, and probably on the series, too.
And there are some tempting markets on offer at Sportsbet right now. We like the look of Australia to win at least one test at $1.13, and no doubt there will be England fans who’ll be betting that they don’t at $5.50. But the big one is this: are you betting that Australia will regain the Ashes at $2.62?
