Bulldogs, Sydney NAB Challenge Favourites: See Their Odds Here…

February 19th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

The NAB Challenge has already given us some great games to whet our appetites for the 2014 AFL season, including a brutal clash between Geelong and Collingwood. Wednesday and Thursday see the turns of the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda, plus Sydney against Greater Western Sydney, and the bar has been set pretty high, so they’ll have to go some to get into the action.

The theme to this year’s pre-season games has been strong squads, all with an eye to hitting the start of the season proper with some real momentum, and most coaches have taken that approach. Expect to see some fresh faces, though, in the St Kilda line-up against the Western Bulldogs, as they debut a big group of eight new players. There is some experience left out of that roster, too, so it’s anybody’s guess how the side will hold together, and the bookies have got St Kilda as $3.00 outsiders on the strength of that. The Bulldogs are the $1.37 favourites, and they’ve named a strong squad that nevertheless lacks a few veterans who are injury concerns for Round One. Even in spite of that, the bookies have some real confidence in a Western Bulldogs win: aside from those outright odds, you’ll get $2.15 for a Bulldogs win by 1-39 points, and $3.30 for a win by 40 or more points. In contrast, St Kilda are a $15.00 bet to storm the game by 40 or more points.

And the Bulldogs-St Kilda game is followed on Thursday by another that holds plenty of interest: there’s been a lot of frank exchanges of views between Sydney and Greater Western Sydney in recent weeks, and Thursday is a chance for the two clubs to do a little bit of talking on the pitch instead. Sydney go in as $1.22 favourites, and we reckon it’ll be worth dropping by Sportsbet in the next couple of days to check out the markets that are on offer for that one. Remember, too, that we’ve got some Round One odds for you if you follow the link, and our Round One tips, as well!
