Melbourne Cup Odds: Admire Rakti The Equal Of Delta Blues?

October 2nd, 2014 by Pom de Turf

This is an exciting year for the Melbourne Cup, and it could be the start of a resurgence in the fortunes of Japanese horses in the race. It has been a number of years since any sort of serious Japanese presence has been seen in The Race That Stops A Nation, but a look at the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup and the Caulfield Cup will show you that both Bande and Admire Rakti are going to be key players in the 2014 Melbourne Spring.

And it could just be that Admire Rakti follows in the footsteps of Delta Blues, who won the 2006 Melbourne Cup with compatriot Pop Rocks in his wake. Certainly, the feeling in Japan is that these two are genuine prospects for Cup glory. According to Naohiro Goda, one of Japan’s best-respected Racing commentators: ‘for the past three years or so, Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Spring Odds: Sacred Falls Wins George Main Stakes

October 2nd, 2014 by Pom de Turf

By all accounts, Chris Waller could easily have come into the 2014 Spring Season with Sacred Falls in his stables, with his owners seriously considering taking him away from Racing. If they hadn’t decided to back Waller’s feeling that Sacred Falls was only getting better, then Waller would have been missing the other half of a fantastic cross-State double a couple of weekends ago, and there would have been a great prospect missing from the Racing odds for the rest of the Spring Season.

As it was, Sacred Falls and Foreteller delivered the goods for Waller within minutes of each other, and neither has done their reputations any harm at all. Particularly pleasing for Sacred Falls’ handlers was Read the rest of this entry »

Racing Odds: Opportunity Abounds In 2014 Melbourne Cup

October 2nd, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Just about a month or so out from the 2014 Melbourne Cup, and Gai Waterhouse’s The Offer is still the favourite, though Bande has joined him at $12.00. Expect to see some changes in those Racing odds over the next month, though, if Racing Victoria’s Greg Carpenter’s predictions are anything to go by. The man charged with the difficult task of handling the weight allocations for this year’s Race That Stops A Nation is on record saying that this year could be the ‘Melbourne Cup of opportunity’ – he reckons the race is wide open, and that more than a few horses have a chance of coming away with the laurels.

And one of the factors in the race that will Read the rest of this entry »
