Queensland Odds-On for the State of Origin

May 18th, 2013 by admin

A win for the Maroons in this year’s State of Origin will see them claim an unprecedented run of eight straight years, and they are currently the bookies’ favourite, sitting at $1.83 to take the series. But Read the rest of this entry »

Chelsea are rightly huge favourites for the Europa League Final 2013

May 13th, 2013 by admin

Wednesday’s Europa League final in Amsterdam looks likely to yield more entertainment for Benfica fans with activities outside the stadium than in, as Chelsea are rightly installed as keen favourites.

To lift the trophy Chelsea are $1.64 with Benfica $2.17. I feel the better value is on the handicap betting, with Chelsea -1 available at $5.00.

Chelsea’s recent form is strong, winning 6 of their last 8 games and with 2 draws, scoring at least 2 goals in every game bar the 1-0 victory against Manchester United. They have also got very recent European Final experience with last year’s Champions League victory.

Benfica on the other hand have a relatively weak streak, with 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in their last 8 games, including losing their last game, against PC Porto. They do often score though, so I think a cheeky correct score bet on Chelsea winning 3-1 at $19.00 is in order.

In my opinion an Over 2.5 goals at $2.00 is an almost certainty.

Other interesting Europa League 2013 Final bets are:

Chelsea to win both halves: $8.00
Lampard to score in 90 minutes and Chelsea to win the match: $5.50
Chelsea to score before and including 28th minute: $3.78

I don’t see much hope for Benfica, however given their likelihood to score, a bet on Benfica to Score Exactly 1 Goal is available at $2.50.

AFL Round 8 best bets, and the shortest price ever for an AFL team.

May 13th, 2013 by admin

Round 8 2013 has thrown up some real mismatches, not least Hawthorn v GWS Giants in which Hawthorn are the shortest priced favourites ever for an AFL game at odds of $1.001 – a thousand to one on!

Best bets of the week at this stage look to be Gold Coast Suns at $1.63 who take on the hopeless Western Bulldogs at Metricon Stadium.

North Melbourne are firing now and look good value as they head to Perth to take on West Coast at odds of $3.10.

Elsewhere, Essendon are just $1.04 at home to Brisbane and Richmond are $1.01 against the hapless Demons. Both prices are way too short and Brisbane are worth a look with a 50.5 points start at the MCG.

More value around Port Adelaide again this week after their blip against the Tigers, Port are way too big at $3.90 to beat Carlton at the Etihad Stadium.

Collingwood’s odds for a top 4 finish in 2013 look to be off the mark

May 13th, 2013 by admin

Another defeat for Collingwood against Fremantle has pushed the Pies close to being removed from the top 8, and talk of a Top 4 finish looks optimistic at best.

Collingwood have faced four teams in the top eight of the ladder in 2013, and have been smashed by three of them (Fremantle, Essendon and Hawthorn). Consequently, the Pies odds for the Premiership have drifted out to $11.00 with Sportsbet.com.au and that price looks skinny.

Collingwood play Geelong at the MCG this Saturday and the Cats are red hot favourites to win at $1.38 and further dent the Magpies 2013 AFL chances. By Sunday morning they just might be down to 10th or 11th and really up against making the Top 8, never mind the Top 4.

Latest AFL Premiership odds:
Hawthorn $3.25
Geelong $3.75
Sydney $7.00

NSW Origin odds increase with Brett Stewart out of game 1

May 8th, 2013 by admin

Brett Stewart’s injury has put punters off backing NSW for the 2013 Origin series. The Blues can now be backed at $2.15 to win the 3 game competition (out from $1.90).

Queensland have won the last 7 Origins and are now firm favourites to make it eight in a row at odds of $1.70

Hawthorn are the AFL 2013 favourites according to the betting odds

February 21st, 2013 by admin

Last year’s beaten favourites, Hawthorn, have been priced up at $1.31 to make amends in 2013.

The Hawks blew it last year when being outfought (and out thought) by the Sydney Swans, who are $8.00 to retain the AFL Premiership.

The 2013 AFL market movers are the West Coast Eagles, and with some justification. The Eagles are formidable at home and were crucified by injuries last year and have been backed accordingly, into $6.00. Eventually coming undone at the MCG against the Pies.

Collingwood have also attracted money and are the best backed team with Sportsbet.com.au, but that’s probably supporter money rather then shrewd cash.

Pointers from New Year’s Day racing at Flemington

January 5th, 2011 by admin

Fashion Black kicked off the day’s good racing at the shortest price of the meeting, only $1.90. Dwayne Dunn was on board in a muddling, fairly unsatisfactory affair. Just prevailed by half a length. Treat this form with caution.

Utah Saints won the next well at $15 and in Race 3 Sandusky City ploughed a lone furrow on the stands side to pip the well backed Happy Angel. This looks a good run from the winner who race far apart from the others.

Orbit Express got home in race 4 for jolly backers and then Rentarossa followed up a win at Caulfield by taking the honours in the Bagot handicap.

Craig Williams took the big race of the day, The Standish Handicap, aboard the impressive sprinter Ahdashim at $6. Keep this one on side for future sprint handicaps.
