England vs Australia: The Momentum Is Still With Australia
January 15th, 2014 by G WaldorfIt’s still all going Michael Clarke’s way. At the half-way point in the first ODI at the MCG, it looked as though England may have been able to rally from their Test series defeat and, with the help of some young, developing talent and a few ODI specialists, finally post a competitive total. But it wasn’t to be. In truth, things didn’t go England’s way in the field (the look on Cook’s face when an edge sailed through the newly-vacant second slip sums up his tour), but the final result was nothing short of a pasting.
So how will England approach the second ODI? Momentum has been a buzzword in lots of sports for a while now, and if you believe it’s a key factor, then you would have to say that it’s all with the Aussies. Australia are a $1.10 bet to take the series, where you’ll get $7.00 for Alistair Cook’s England side. England, though, are a shorter $3.34 to register a win at The Gabba, so that $7.00 might represent value if you think things can be turned around. Elsewhere, Aaron Finch is a $4.00 bet to repeat his success from Brisbane and be Australia’s highest run-scorer, while Gary Ballance is a $5.50 to do the same again for England. At the MCG, Australia’s openers put on a massive, record-breaking first-wicket stand, and they’re at $1.82 to out-score England’s openers in Brisbane, too. Finch, though, was gone second ball for his Big Bash franchise this week, so if you think it’ll be England’s openers putting on more runs, you’ll get $1.97. Those two record-breaking Aussie openers are joint favourites, in the meantime, to pick up the Man of the Match award: both are $7.00 bets at the moment on Sportsbet.
So, whilst the series might already have a worryingly one-sided feel to it, you can see that there’s plenty of betting action to be had, and maybe some great value, too. Check out all the info you need and the latest cricket odds by following the link…
