Melbourne Cup second-favourite Fiorente won’t run in this year’s Caulfield Cup, with trainer Gai Waterhouse instead opting for a run-out in the Cox Plate. With Fiorente a strong contender for the Melbourne Cup, preparations for that race might be playing their part in the decision, but Waterhouse still has a strong showing in the Caulfield Cup, with half a dozen horses in contention.

There are plenty of others to watch out for with an eye on the Melbourne Cup, besides Fiorente, who’s at $8.00 for the Cup on November 5th. Red Caudeaux and Royal Diamond were amongst those opting out of the Caulfield Cup, but Dandino and Simenon will both be running. Dandino is at $26.00 for the Melbourne Cup, and Simenon currently sitting at $41.00. Look out, too for Hawkspur and Royal Descent…
