Harness Racing odds: Australian Drivers Championship
October 17th, 2014 by Pom de TurfSydney will next year host the World Driving Championships, and Harness Racing fans all around the globe will be tuning in to watch the very best reinsmen and reinswomen in the sport competing for a very coveted prize. But first of all, there’s the small matter of the Australian Drivers Championship, which is set to determine which of the drivers you see making an impact on the Racing odds week in week out will go on to represent Australian at the World Driving Championships.
And there are some real stars in the line-up. The drivers will accumulate points over a six-race series hosted by Harness Racing South Australia, with the most consistent winning the honour of representing Australia. The names are below in case you were wondering, but we thought it was worth giving you an idea of the calibre of drivers we’re talking about by taking a closer look at the pair standing for Victoria: Chris Alford and Greg Sugars. Alford is a true veteran reinsman whose career dates back to the mid-eighties (not that he would necessarily want to be reminded of the fact!) and includes an incredible number of race wins: more than 5400 at last count! Sugars, by comparison, is something of a newcomer, but he has a reputation as a tactician, and he has collected at least a hundred wins each season since 2007, topping two hundred wins in five of those years. When you see either of those behind a horse in the Racing odds, it’s well worth taking note, and the same is probably true of the whole field for the Australian Drivers Championships. Those riders are:
Chris Alford and Greg Sugars for Victoria;
Blake Fitzpatrick and Amanda Turnbull for New South Wales;
Gary Hall Jnr and Chris Voak for Western Australia;
David Harding and Ryan Hryhorec for South Australia;
Grant Dixon and Pete McMullan for Queensland;
Ricky Duggan and Gareth Rattray for Tasmania.
