Harness Racing Odds: Beautide Horse Of The Year
October 9th, 2014 by Pom de TurfBeautide, the Tasmanian Pacer, was named the 2014 Australian Harness Racing Horse of the Year last month, and it’s an award that rounds out a very good year indeed for Beautide and for his trainer James Rattray. There’s a Miracle Mile coming up that you need to keep an eye on the Racing odds for – Beautide will inevitably feature, and it sounds like Rattray is looking forward to the prospect: ‘the trial behind Suave Stuey Lombo has topped him off nicely and off the back of that he is ready to go back to the races so he will race this weekend. I had planned on bringing him back last week but when there was all that rain in Sydney recently it forced the trials to be called off one afternoon which put me back just a little bit and I really didn’t want him racing first up in the 2300 metre race last Saturday. I have the option of taking him to Queensland but at this stage I am thinking we won’t go for the Queensland Pacing Championships and the horse can just get ready for the Miracle Mile. He went to the Newcastle Mile to qualify for the race last year but at this stage I will be just keeping him at Menangle in the lead up to it.’
And with a careful preparation, it could well be that Beautide isn’t just right amongst the shortest of the Racing odds to win the Miracle Mile. He might have it in him to run under 1.50 – a mark he has got tantalisingly close to in the past, but one that Rattray thinks he can go under with a steady preparation: ‘he is ready to race but by the looks of the barrier draws he will be drawing out wide in his races for the time being because of the prize money he has won in his recent runs so I will be happy to let him find his feet rather than firing him off the arm, he raced well like that last time in so I’m hoping that pattern will continue. You want to win the race first but I think he has a real quick mile in him. Although he got beaten the other night [by Sauve Stuey Lombo] he is going along the way I would like. Given the right conditions he would be able to get down towards 1.48 if he needed to.’
That would make Beautide very difficult indeed to beat, and any signs that he’ll run under 1.50 will make him very popular with punters. And he is, after, all, the Harness Racing Horse of the Year…
