Harness Racing Odds: Tritton Pair Targeting QPC
October 23rd, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt’s quite an achievement on the part of trainer Shane Tritton to get a couple of prospects ready for and into the Queensland Pacing Cup this weekend, and you can see from the Racing odds we’ve got for you if you follow that link that both are in the mix for the race.
Unfavourable barrier draws have seen punters hesitating to back either Marty Monkhouser or Mark Dennis, but Tritton himself explains why it might be a little too early for him to concede defeat, and why he’s looking past this weekend, as well: ‘it’s not ideal but it’s not the end of the world either. I’m really happy with both horses and I’m expecting a forward showing from both, these races attract speed and pressure and that should suit us nicely. Marty Monkhouser has come to hand really well following his break and his trial the other day was super coming off the speed, he recorded very good sectionals and pulled up really well. He’s versatile and keeps improving; he had no luck during the Brisbane winter carnival before he made his own luck in Melbourne. I’m still learning about Mark Dennis but he’s a quality horse, he’s had a few different homes during his career but has always done a good job. I thought his first-up win for me was strong and he’s still on the up, I do think his best form will come over the shorter trips but he thoroughly deserves his shot in this race. I know firsthand how hard it is to win in Brisbane but I’m happy with my runners. Avonnova looked good last week running good time while Abettorpunt and For A Reason both hit the line well, let’s just hope for constant pressure up front and then we’ve got a great chance.’
Both Tritton and the Racing odds will tell you that Avonnova is going to be the horse to beat, and a tough one at that: ‘Avonnova has got the draw to win the race and I guess it will come down to whether he finds the front without doing too much because I think if the rest of the horses drawn inside him let him cross easily then we are all going to be racing for second place. Lauren (Panella) will drive Marty Monkhouser on Saturday and he is absolutely flying at the moment, he is going to need some luck but I think he will develop into a horse that will be very competitive against this better class of horse over the next twelve months.’ Time will tell, of course, but you get the sense that Tritton will be back for this race, and hoping for a better draw next time out…
