The news coming out of Japan this week is not good, and the Melbourne Cup is likely to miss out on a Japanese connection again this year. Admire Rakti won’t be making the trip to Australia, and there won’t be a repeat of the strong 2006 showing by horses out of Japan.

But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be a truly international look to the field. Look out for a strong European connection, and keep an eye out, too, for Ahzeemah, currently at $41.00, Mount Athos ($26.00) and Simenon ($34.00) – all of them are in action in York on Friday…
