Melbourne Cup Odds and Tips: High Hopes for Simenon
October 18th, 2013 by Pom de TurfWillie Mullins never intended Simenon to be a contender on the flat when he took him on as a five-year-old, but an aversion to the soft ground that is something of an inevitability in the British Jumps season has since set him on a different path. And that path might well have led him to the Melbourne Cup this November 5th.
Simenon won’t be Mullins’ first raid on the Australian Spring Carnival, and he looks to be shaping up very well indeed for the big race. His Australian debut was in last week’s Herbert Power Stakes, and he went very well, coming home a close third. His odds for the Melbourne Cup on Sportsbet at the moment are $26.00, where he’s sitting alongside Royal Empire, Jet Away and Silent Achiever – as good an indication of his quality as any, and a mark of the expectations that might be on him by early November. He’s still a way behind the favourite, Fiorente, who’s at $6.00 as of today, but there’s a while to go yet: watch this space for all your Melbourne Cup odds 2013…
