Melbourne Cup Odds and Tips: The Foreign Legion Have Landed!
October 22nd, 2013 by Pom de TurfThe overseas horses making the journey to our shores in a bid to win the Race That Stops A Nation have landed, and it’s a strong international field that features more than a few horses that will be hopeful of landing the biggest prize in Australian racing.
There are plenty of challenges facing the trainers of the new arrivals – particularly as they’re arriving so close to the race – but there’s certainly less outcry these days over the inclusion of some many overseas runners in the Spring Carnival. It looks like there will be a record number in the Melbourne Cup come November 5th, but there’s a general feeling that the imports have been making the race stronger over the years. There will definitely be some betting on the horses that have made the journey: Dunaden is at $41.00 on Sportsbet right now, ahead of Red Cadeaux at $51.00. Brown Panther is at $34.00, and you’ll get $26.00 for Royal Empire. Closer to the favourite Fiorente ($6.50) are Verema at $13.00, Mount Athos at $11.00 and Dandino at $9.00. Will you be backing an import, or are you betting that an Australian horse takes the plaudits come November 5th?
