Melbourne Cup Odds: Fawkner Confirmed
October 30th, 2014 by Pom de TurfLloyd Williams was happy to confirm this week that Fawkner, his big Melbourne Cup hope, is in good condition, and will certainly be contesting the 2014 Race That Stops A Nation – and featuring strongly in the Racing odds, too, we’re sure – barring any unforeseen circumstances between now and race day on November 4th.
Fawkner is no stranger to the Melbourne Spring’s biggest race, having run a respectable sixth behind Fiorente last year, and Williams is looking to see him improve on that given another go at the Cup. He comes to the 2014 Melbourne Cup with some real form, too, after a couple of eye-catching runs to bag him a pair of second places, behind Adelaide in the Cox Plate and to Dissident in the Makybe Diva Stakes. Add to that a win in the Caulfield Stakes, and you’ve got a good-looking approach to the Melbourne Cup for a talented prospect that Williams is confident can go well: ‘he ran terrific in the Cox Plate and has pulled up good. He’s in perfect condition and the Cup has always been a target. He ran well in it last year, so we are looking forward to it.’
Obviously, we’ve got all the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup waiting for you at the other end of the link – as of today, Sportsbet have Japanese stayer Admire Rakti as the favourite with odds of 4.80 for this year’s race, with Protectionist and Lucia Valentina the other horses on shorter odds than Fawkner.
