Melbourne Cup Odds: La Amistad In Last Chance Saloon?
October 17th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt’s crunch time for La Amistad as far as the Melbourne Cup is concerned – she needs to perform this weekend or she’ll likely be out of those Racing odds for The Race That Stops A Nation.
It seems like a shame for a horse who has been so highly rated to be flirting with failure at this stage of the Melbourne Spring, but La Amistad has been steadily falling out of favour with punters, and needs to turn in a performance to get things back on track. So look out for La Amistad in the City Tattersall’s Club Cup at Randwick this weekend, in a race that’s pretty much do-or-die for her. Trainer Michael Hawke will be a tense man, most likely, when Saturday comes, but he has followed this path to Melbourne cup success before, so he will know that all is not lost by any means: ‘this race is where she is at. She’ll either go to Melbourne or she will be in the paddock. It will be one or the other after Saturday. It’s a nice race for her and it’s a race we won with Maluckyday and we’re hoping to repeat that. She is as good as we’ve got her this time in and although she’s no Makybe, we’ve always said that (she wasn’t).’
On the positive side, a look at the Racing odds will show for the weekend will show you that the bookies believe there’s every chance of La Amistad starting back at work on Monday morning with a win under her belt, and that would very much open up the possibility of a Melbourne Cup – she is a horse that came to the 2014 Melbourne Spring with some big expectations surrounding her, and it’s still possible that La Amistad can fulfil them…
