Melbourne Cup Odds: No Renew In 2014
October 29th, 2014 by Pom de TurfTempting Melbourne Cup prospect Renew won’t be making an appearance in the 2014 race, we’re hearing this week – the European stayer’s connections have settled on a tilt at the Sandown Cup just a little bit less than two weeks later instead – so you can rule Renew out of your calculations when you’re assessing those Racing odds for The Race That Stops A Nation.
It was OTI Director Terry Henderson who spoke to the press after the decision to pull the plug on an attempt at the Melbourne Cup: ‘he’ll stay up there for a month before he goes to his ultimate trainer, (Chris) Waller. (Temporary trainer) Archie (Alexander) has been asked to perhaps stir him up a little bit with a view of perhaps going to a Sandown Cup. He’s just not putting in. Hopefully we can turn him on before the end of his campaign.’
It’s likely to be a sad loss for Henderson and OTI, but they do still have a chance of seeing horses in the 2014 Melbourne Cup, with Lord Van Percy, Gatewood and Au Revoir all still in the frame for an appearance. All three would have to see success between now and the Melbourne Cup to bag a place, but that’s far from the realms of possibility: the Lexus Stakes at Flemington on VRC Derby Day will be a real chance for Lord Van Percy to win a ticket to the 2014 Melbourne Cup. Either way, make sure you’ve got an eye on those Racing odds as the big race gets closer!
