Melbourne Cup Odds: The Weather
November 2nd, 2014 by Pom de TurfBad news for the mudlarks in the 2014 Melbourne Cup. And if you’ve been looking at those Racing odds and have backed a horse that favours a softer track it might be bad news for you, too: the weather looks to be set fair for the weekend, and crucially for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup. A hard track underfoot will certainly favour some horse over others, and now it’s just a matter of working out which those ones are, and whether they represent value…
If you’ve already got money down, then you’re in the hands of the gods, as always with the weather, but if you’re still looking for a bet, then you will want to factor a fine day into your calculations. Admire Rakti is still the favourite on Sportsbet as of today, and to be honest we’re not totally sure how he goes on the firmer ground. Of course, with Sportsbet being the comprehensive online bookmaker that they are, they’re offering you not only the chance to bet on the horses currently in the reckoning for the Melbourne Cup, but also on the weather itself! At the moment, we’re seeing odds of a dry race sitting at $1.200, while rain is a $4.00 bet. Temperatures over 28° are a $1.87 bet, and there’s very little chance of a rain-off (which has happened twice in the Melbourne Cup’s history), with the postponement at odds of $101.00. And if none of those off-the-wall bets on the weather take your fancy, then you should know that we’ve got all the Racing odds for the horses themselves waiting for you at the end of the link there, so have a look over them and make sure you’re ready for Tuesday!
