Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Japanese Import Bande To Run
August 21st, 2014 by Pom de TurfRacing Victoria have confirmed that exciting 5-year-old stayer Bande will be making the trip from Japan to Australia for the Melbourne Spring Racing Festival, and he’ll most likely have the Melbourne Cup itself firmly in his sights. With some good form behind him, too, he’ll be a feature of the Racing odds for the big race as it gets closer…
Bande will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of other successful Japanese horses in the Melbourne Spring, and Racing Victoria representative Leigh Jordan was keen to build him up: ‘we’ve seen how Japanese-trained horses have performed in Melbourne previously so the prospect of a return in 2014 is extremely exciting. The horse couldn’t have been more impressive winning at Sapporo on the weekend and his form in Stakes races behind the likes of Epiphaneia and Gold Ship is strong. The Melbourne Cup will be the primary target for Bande and at this stage both the Caulfield Cup and Geelong Cup remain on the table as potential lead-up runs.’
Jordan is referring to a rollicking five-length win in the Sapporo Nikkei Open over 2600m in Bande’s last outing – the sort of eye-catching run that will make punters sit up and take note of Bande when he arrives for the Melbourne Spring. It remains to be seen if he will run in the Caulfield Cup or the Geelong Cup in his preparations for the Melbourne Cup, but if he does, he’s likely to have a say in those races – and he’s definitely going to feature in the Racing odds, so have an eye for him…
