Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Perfectionist Likely To Run
September 3rd, 2014 by Pom de TurfTo win a Prix Kergolay and Melbourne Cup double is a rare achievement indeed: only Americain has done it. But that will be the aim of classy entire Perfectionist in the 2014 Melbourne Spring, and he’s already in amongst the early Racing odds for the big race.
The Prix Kergolay wasn’t run at any great pace, but Perfectionist came home very nicely, and trainer Andreas Wohler was happy to confirm after the race that a trip to Australia was on the cards – he even has an idea of the path that Perfectionist might take through the Spring Festival: ‘it wasn’t really a staying race as they didn’t go much pace and (Perfectionist’s stablemate) Altano isn’t a horse who really wants to lead. I was pleased with both of them and Perfectionist will be going to Australia. We’re thinking more of the Melbourne Cup than the Caulfield Cup; Caulfield is a very early entry stage so we just put him in. We’ll get him down there and he’ll have a prep-race in Australia, I should think in one of the other Cup races.’
He hasn’t had a debut as yet at Group 1 level, but there’s plenty of opportunity for that once Perfectionist gets to Australia, and we’ll be able to see him in action and get a better idea of how he’s going to go in the 2014 Melbourne Spring, and what sort of chance he’s going to be in The Race That Stops A Nation. Either way, he’s on the radar now, and we’ll keep you updated with the Racing odds as they change…
