Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Voleuse De Coeurs Struck By Virus
September 23rd, 2014 by Pom de TurfAn Irish import with some genuine class, and a horse we’ve already seen in in the Melbourne Cup, when she ran tenth behind Fiorente in last year’s race, Voleuse De Coeurs was set to kick off her 2014 Melbourne Spring with a run in the Underwood Stakes. But news that she has come down with an infection of some sort has possibly meant that she won’t be appearing in the Racing odds for this year’s Spring Festival at all…
Voleuse De Coeurs pulled up sore after track work last Saturday morning, and trainer Michael Moroney originally suspected a stone bruise, but the situation turned out to be something much worse: ‘it’s one of the rarest things I have seen, the vet said he’s never seen anything like it. It may have been carried in her blood. She’s on her way to Werribee Veterinary Clinic, but I would say at a guess she may be out of the Spring.’ The diagnosis we’re seeing is apparently a swelling in the coffin joint, for what it’s worth, and that’s the sort of injury to put her entire Melbourne Spring campaign in doubt. And that will obviously come as a huge blow to both Moronoey and his teams as well as to many, many punters who will have been looking out for Voleuse De Coeurs in the Racing odds. There are other horses around to keep them interested, of course, but the Irish stayer was a classy import, and would have been a great addition to the Festival. Watch this space for more news as we get it…
