Melbourne Spring Odds: Manikato Challenge For Terravista
October 23rd, 2014 by Pom de TurfTrainer Joe Pride has been living up to his name this week: he clearly feels confident that his boy Terravista can live up to whatever hype is attached to him ahead of the Manikato Stakes at the weekend – and he’s been taking to the old social media to share his good opinion of Terravista with anyone who’ll listen.
Lots of punters have been listening, it seems like, and plenty are agreeing with him, a look at the Racing odds for the race at the weekend will tell you. Pride is of the opinion that there simply isn’t a better horse out there than Terravista, and he has caught the ear of bookmakers as well as punters, Sportsbet’s own Christian Jantzen told the press this week: ‘Joe tweeted that Terravista was the best sprinter in the world and the money suggests plenty of punters agree. But punters don’t appear willing to give Lankan Rupee another chance as he is hard to lay.’ And that’s the battle that’s shaping up for the Manikato Stakes this weekend – one that has Racing fans licking their lips in anticipation. Lankan Rupee came to the 2014 Melbourne Spring with quite a reputation, but a couple of lacklustre performances have seen punters reluctant to back him in any real strength this week. You get the feeling that this would be a great time for Lankan Rupee to roar back to his best form, and you get the feeling, too, that he won’t get that many more chances before that glowing reputation is tarnished for good. A look at the Racing odds will tell, you, though, that whilst punters may have been staying away from Lankan Rupee a little, and favouring Terravista a little more, the bookies aren’t prepared to separate the two, and they’re both sitting on the same odds as of today. That could change before the race, and there could be plenty of changes afoot after it, but one thing’s for certain: we’ll be watching, along with every other Racing fan!
