Melbourne Spring Odds: No Caulfield Cup For Red Cadeaux
October 16th, 2014 by Pom de TurfHe’s probably one of the most popular horses around, Red Cadeaux, and he’s incredibly likeable – he has a combination of bravery and talent that has cemented him in the hearts of punters here in Australia, and also staked out his place close to the top of the Racing odds, too. A couple of very close defeats in the Melbourne Cup to date haven’t hurt his profile at all, of course, and he’ll be back for another shot at the trophy in the 2014 edition of the race.
But punters won’t have the chance to see him in action in the 2014 Caulfield Cup, which, whilst it might be a bit of a disappointment for many, is hardly a surprise – Red Cadeaux has gone straight to the Melbourne Cup in each of his previous campaigns in the Melbourne Spring, and this year will see him taking a familiar route. That’s not to say the Caulfield Cup wasn’t carefully considered by Red Cadeaux’s trainer Ed Dunlop: ‘We are very happy with the way he has travelled and the way he is training, but we don’t want to run him on quick ground before the big race.’
Fresh legs will probably help Red Cadeaux in the Melbourne Cup, anyway. He’s usually a very consistent performer, but failed to get up to standard back in September, so no doubt Dunlop and his team have been working hard to make sure he’s absolutely ready for the Melbourne Cup. How their choice of preparation will affect where Red Cadeaux falls in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup remains to be seen, but you can keep up to speed by clicking that link there.
