Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Can Star Rolling Make The Caulfield Cup?
August 7th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIn some ways, last year was a disappointing and frustrating year for Star Rolling and his trainers and owners, with the Casino Prince gelding failing to make the Caulfield Cup. His spring form was far from disappointing, though, and he carried himself through the season very nicely – with the result that he will again feature in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Spring.
Trainer Peter Morgan is of the opinion that Star Rolling has more to give than he has been showing since that 2013 Spring Season: ‘he is coming along really good and I am really happy with him. I think that he was a better horse in the spring when we couldn’t get runs and I was never 100 percent happy with him in the autumn, but I think at the moment he is back to where I had him last spring. He has grown since the autumn. Last year the plan was the Caulfield Cup and hopefully we can get that way again this year.’
There’s lots of racing, of course, between now and November – starting this weekend and next with the 1000m Handicap at Moonee and the P.B. Lawrence Stakes, both of which are possibilities for Star Rolling. Morgan will be taking it a step at a time, it sounds like: ‘I am not sure he is running on Saturday yet, we are just taking a bit of an each-way bet to see whether it rains too much and the trials are off on Monday. We are just going to see what happens. If he doesn’t run this weekend he will probably trial Monday and have his first-up run in the Liston.’
So it remains to be seen whether Star Rolling can get himself into contention for the Caulfield Cup this year: keep an eye on the Racing odds for him, and watch this space for more news!
