Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Hallowed Crown Wins Golden Rose
September 19th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt’s one of the first big races of the Spring Season, and the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes was eagerly anticipated, with a field full of stars and classy prospects competing for a rich prize of a million dollars. There will be a few of these horses making repeat appearances in the Racing odds we’ve got for you in the Melbourne Spring Festival this year, so this is a significant race for form, too.
And it was Hallowed Crown who came home in a fast-run race to claim the prize, maintaining in the process an eye-catching run of wins that leaves him with four wins from four races – and looking like a real prospect for other big races in the 2014 Melbourne Spring and beyond. He beat home some big names, too, in the Golden Rose: Bring Me The Maid was the favourite at one stage in the run-up to the race, but managed only eighth on the day, and Almalad, Nostradamus and Sarajevo all trailed the first three home. It was Shooting To Win in third, and Hallowed Crown had to dig really deep to hold off Scissor Kick to win it in the end.
We’re not sure exactly what’s in store next for Hallowed Crown, but he’s likely to be getting his fair share of attention in the Racing odds, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for news about him in these pages, too. Trainer James Cummings is understandably upbeat about the colt’s prospects, mind you: ‘that is what the good horses have got to do, they just keep on taking that step. We thought that he was one of the best three-year-olds in his return two-weeks ago and he had to do it again and he had to make such a sustained run in that race. He could be anything and I can’t wait for what we can see from him in the future. The world is his oyster and who knows how far he can go.’
