Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Looking ahead To The Spring Champion Stakes
September 4th, 2014 by Pom de TurfFalling on October 11th, the Spring Champion Stakes is a great chance to see some of the most exciting 3-year-olds involved in the Melbourne Spring in action, and the distance that the race is run over gives you a chance to see which of them are bound for the Melbourne Cup, and which ones are names to look out for in the Racing Odds for the big staying races of the Spring Festival.
One of those names will likely be Gai Waterhouse’s Almalad, who is one of the horses collecting plenty of media attention as the Melbourne Spring rolls around. And he’s rightly in the spotlight, too – his record coming into the 2014 Spring Festival is cracking, and Waterhouse is very pleased with how he’s coming along, telling anyone who will listen that she has a real prospect on her hands in Almalad.
Gerald Ryan is keeping his options open for the Spring Champion Stakes, including Peggy Jean in the nominations alongside stablemates Bachman and Washington Heights. All three are horses that we’ll be keeping tabs on between now and October 11th, and any of the three could have a say in the Spring Champion Stakes.
And there are as many as seven horses in the nominations who could carry the iconic Godolphin blue silks in the Spring Champion Stakes – Ghibellines and Meursault are probably the pick of them, and they’ll both feature in the Racing odds that you’ll find at the end of that link there…
