Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Shock Defeat For Lankan Rupee
September 12th, 2014 by Pom de TurfThe McEwan Stakes should have been a positive return to Racing for the horse who’s rated as the world’s best sprinter, but Lankan Rupee couldn’t bring home the goods for trainer Mick Price – we’re interested to see how the narrow defeat will affect his Racing odds as we go through the Melbourne Spring…
Lankan Rupee comes into the 2014 Melbourne Spring Festival with quite a reputation, and in all honesty the fact that he was edged out unexpectedly by Angelic Light probably won’t do him too much harm. It’s not something that Price had in mind for his first outing of the 2014 Spring campaign, obviously, and it’s not as though the race went to script as far as Lankan Rupee is concerned, but he could have had a considerably worse first run of the Melbourne Spring, and you’d have to think he still has plenty to give. Price was fairly sanguine when he spoke to the press after the McEwan Stakes: ‘I’m happy enough with the horse, but I wanted to see him win.’ And that pretty well sums up Lankan Rupee’s day out – he’s definitely still a horse to watch, and he’ll be a fixture of the shorter Racing odds for the sprints in the 2014 Melbourne Spring, and you never know, he could do well without the pressure of all that media attention on him.
