Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Slade Power Back In Work
September 16th, 2014 by Pom de TurfHe’s a horse who will attract a good deal of attention in this 2014 Melbourne Spring, and rightly so – Slade Power has a great record of wins behind him, and he’s bound to feature as one of the horses with the shorter of the Racing odds for big sprints like the VRC this Spring Festival.
But he nearly didn’t feature at all, after a health scare that put his whole Australian campaign in jeopardy, and that ruled out a chance at a massive treble when he missed the Sprint Cup. That will have been a huge disappointment for trainer Eddie Lynam, but it would have been an even bigger blow to miss out on the chance of a trip to Australia, and the chance to contest the VRC Sprint Classic in November. Fortunately for Lynam – and obviously for punters who’ve had an eye on Slade Power as he prepares for the 2014 Melbourne season – his dose of ringworm looks to have cleared up, and Slade Power is back in work ahead of the journey to Australia.
The 2014 Melbourne Spring will be especially important for Slade Power, as it will most likely be the last of a great career, and he comes into this year with some really good recent performances to encourage punters, according to Lynam: ‘he’s in good form. He’s back in full work and he’ll be going into quarantine in a few weeks with a view to sending him to Australia at the beginning of October.’ The trainer’s not giving anything away there, obviously, but with Slade Power’s record he hardly needs to: he’s going to be popular in those Racing odds for November’s Sprint Classic, and there could be a run or two between now and then, too, that’s worth taking a look at…
