Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Sweynesse Still Unbeaten
September 23rd, 2014 by Pom de TurfAn impressive run of three wins from three starts continues for Sweynesse, and he looked good in action in the Spring Stakes as he held off a fast finish by Pounamu to claim the prize. With the sort of record he’s gathering, he’s going to be a real fixture of the Racing odds for the 2014 Melbourne Spring.
Sweynesse is obviously something of a prospect, and the Lonhro colt very much looked the part as he crossed the line in his new blue silks – he’s the first Stakes winner for the Godolphin stables since they set up shop permanently in Australia. The first of many, we suspect, and a win that Jason Walsh, the Racing Manager at Darley, will have very much enjoyed: ‘first stakes winner for Godolphin with a permanent presence in Australia, huge thrill for the whole team. Typical of a Lonhro, every time we raise the bar he jumps. We had the Spring Champion in mind for him, depending on him performing today which he has done, done impressively. A really nice colt going forward. There is plenty of staying blood there in the pedigree. We agree that 2000m should pose no problem and he is a very exciting horse for us. There are not many Lonhros that do get past a mile, but we haven’t got anywhere near the bottom of him yet so I certainly would rule out any plans.’
That means looking forward to races like the Spring Champion Stakes in October and maybe the VRC Derby on November 1st, and making sure that you keep tabs on how the Racing odds are shaping up for Sweynesse between now and then!
