NRL 9th & 10th March: Dragons And Tigers Both $1.90 Odds
March 5th, 2014 by TJ DilferThe bookies can’t separate the Dragons and the Tigers for their first meeting in 2014, and it looks like it’ll be a cracker! Even better, it’s just one of the great games in the early draw for this season, and there a second game to enjoy on Sunday night, plus another on Monday when the Sharks and the Titans run out to start their 2014 campaigns.
Neither the Dragons nor the Tigers had 2013 seasons that their fans will remember fondly, and neither side managed more than seven wins. That makes the start of this season incredibly important for both clubs, and these two sides might find themselves looking back at this fixture from the business end of the season if things haven’t gone their way, and they’re in the running for the wooden spoon. The dreaded spoon won’t be decided on Sunday night, but the side that scores a win will take a step towards avoiding it. Both the St George Illawarra Dragons and Wests Tigers are $1.90 for the win on Sportsbet right now…
Sunday night’s other game sees the Eels and the New Zealand Warriors go head to head, and this is another clash that we could be looking back at in the next few weeks and months. The Eels, after successive last-place finishes, will want to just see improvement this year, and the Warriors will be favourites on Sunday, at $1.65 to Parramatta’s $2.25. The Warriors will be setting their sights on a top-four finish in 2014, after a feeling of disappointment at last year’s result, and a win at Parramatta is the right way to kick things off for them.
Then, on Monday, you’ve got two more sides in action with management teams who will want a win in the result column to take the focus away from past failings or current problems. Off-field issues at Cronulla Sharks will mean that their temporary management will be desperate for the attention to stay on the pitch, and only a win will do that: they are $1.58 favourites. The Titans arguably have worse problems, as their issues are in their performances over the past few seasons: steady progress upwards from last place over the past three seasons won’t count for much in the minds of their fans if they can’t make it into the finals this year. The pundits aren’t full of confidence that the Titans can deliver in 2014, but overturning those odds of $2.37 and scoring the win on Monday would be a great start!
